What is resurfacing?

Resurfacing (also referred to as reglazing, or resurfacing) is a process that bonds a hard, glossy molecular chemical coating over the existing fixture. This process is most notably used on bathtubs, sinks, and wall tiles. The process begins with cleaning and an acid wash. After that, we sand, and mask, then apply a primer coat and 3 coats of material to achieve a glossy smooth finish. We then unmask and caulk where applicable.

My bathtub has a liner over it. Can it be resurfaced?

Yes, a bathtub that has a liner can be resurfaced. The resurfacing process can be done after removing the liner from the bathtub.

How long can a resurfaced bathtub last?

If a resurfaced bathtub is properly maintained and no abrasive chemicals are used for cleaning, the tub may last as long as a new bathtub, which is about 10 to 15 years.

Does bathtub resurfacing have an odor?

Yes, a resurfaced bathtub may have an odor. New acrylic bathtub finishes contain solvents that make the finish hard and durable. The odor will disappear within 24 to 48 hours, and the finish will be completely cured.

How long does the bathtub resurfacing process take?

The resurfacing process for an average bathtub takes 1 to 3 hours. You may use your resurfaced Perma Ceram finish in 6 hours.

Will my resurfaced bathtub look like it has been painted?

No, it will look very much like a new bathtub.

How long does re-grouting take?

The process of regrouting usually takes one day.

How long do I have to wait before I can use my shower after a re-grout?

You can use your shower after 24 hours, but waiting for 48 hours is highly recommended.

What is re-grouting?

Regrouting is the process where old grout between the tiles is removed and replaced with new grout. This includes removing and replacing the caulking with the new grout.
Regrouting improves the appearance of a tiled area at a fraction of the cost of replacing the tiles.
If regrouting is done correctly, you can give your tiled surfaces a fresh and new look simply by applying a new layer of grout.

When should I re-grout?

Regrouting can save you from spending thousands of dollars on remodeling your bathroom. Here are some signs to look for when its time to regrout your tiles:
– When the grout is below the level of the tiles’ edge
– When caulking is present
– When you see leakage or water stains on the ceiling below the bathroom
– When grout becomes moldy or has mildew
– Prior to any water damage to the substrate or below the tile surfaces, such as a kitchen countertop or shower floors and walls

What are the basic qualities of ceramic tiles?

Ceramic tiles are heat, stain, and scratch-resistant. They come in various colors, shapes, and sizes. They are cost-effective and can be repaired, resurfaced or regrouted. They can also be replaced easily when cracked or broken.

What colors are available?

We can match virtually ANY COLOR. All we need is a sizeable sample to read with a color-matching device. Alternatively, you may obtain a Benjamin Moore/Sherwin Williams color chip, which we can match.  Please note that while we do our best to match an existing color, there may be up to a 10% difference due to factors such as lighting, substrate, etc.

Is there any odor?

Unfortunately, whenever you use any chemicals there is going to be an odor. How offensive it depends upon each individual. We use a fan or ventilator depending on if there is a window in the room. This does help to evacuate most of the odors in the bathroom.

Is the Perma Ceram finish slippery?

In general, we have found a few instances where people complained about the finish being slippery. You may use a bathmat, but it MUST BE REMOVED after every use, and not left in the bathtub. If you feel the need for some added grip in a bathtub we also do have several options for this.

If my bathtub has been resurfaced before, can it be done again?

Yes, absolutely. There is no limit to how many times a fixture can be resurfaced.

How long does the finish last?

Generally, with good care and maintenance, the average finish lasts between 6-10 years.

What is the guarantee?

Up to five years from the date of completion. The finish is UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED against any workmanship defects.

How do I clean my Perma Ceram finish??

You must use only nonabrasive cleaners. Using abrasives is just like using a piece of sandpaper resulting in premature wear and eventual finish failure. Cleaners such as Scrubbing Bubbles, Tilex, or Fantastic are fine along with many others. Stay away from products such as Comet or Ajax.

How long before I can use the fixture?

A resurfaced fixture is usually dry to the touch upon completion. However, it takes 6 hours to harden for use.

How long does the process take?

Most work can be completed in less than one day. A typical bathtub takes between 1 and 6 hours depending on its existing condition.

How do I know my fixture(s) are in need of resurfacing?

Generally, there are two major reasons to consider resurfacing. 1) If your fixture is hard to clean, stained, or discolored; 2) To spruce up an old bathroom, ie change colors, or just make it look new again.
